[作業-學習心得] Learning Log (1) :Grave Stele

Website I visited
Royal Ontario Museum “Grave Stele, Greece” (http://www.rom.on.ca/media/audio/flash.php?stop=311)
What language content I have learned
From the sound artist:
1. Grave Stele, Greece (石柱; 石碑)
2. Greek tomb sculptures were both markers for the deceased, and memorials. (死者)
3. At the top, the artist has carved a siren.(【希神】塞壬(半人半鳥的女海妖, 以歌聲吸引水手並使船隻遇難))
4. She’s there to ward off any potential desecrators(瀆聖者)
My reflections
This audio tour clearly explains the historical background of this grave stele. It introduces what kind of artworks will people died around that time use to decorate their grave. Then it shows us the meanings and functions of the images carved on the stele. This information can greatly improve the comprehension of visitors to the artwork. However, I think this audio tour does not offer enough description about the appearance of the artwork. Due to the limitation of the internet, we browsers cannot observe the stele very well. The descriptions offered by the instructor thus become important. So we should be aware of this aspect when we are making an audio tour.
