Learning log 1 (By 潘衍廷)
Website I visited | Royal Ontario Museum: Iconic - "Kunti" (Blue Lady) (http://www.rom.on.ca/media/podcasts/display.php?id=119) |
What language content I have learned (vocabulary/sentence/…) | From the sound artist: 1. women are very assertive (堅定自信的;堅決主張的) 2. he was using these ready-mades. (預製的;現成的) 3. urinal (小便池;小便斗) 4. zoom (將畫面推進或拉遠) 5. torso 軀幹 |
My reflections | The speaker is a female Indian artist, Novjot Altof, who made the series of sculptures. She called these blue-woman-like sculptures Kunti, named after a witch in Kondegoon, India. In that place, any woman possessing knowledge is valid to be called a witch. Novjot said that not just in India, many other countries in the world have that witch, who may be de-humanizing though she is not a bad person. These witches are assertive. Novjot cut the sculpture separately because the trunk was too huge. The sculpture is composed of many parts: arms, torso, and so on. Some parts of these blue ladies are ready-mades, such as the green tube they hold. And lastly, I would like to say that the learning log a hard task for me, because the speaker spoke English with a strong Indian accent and I had a little difficulty recognizing what she is saying. However, I’ve completed the task. |
