一進到蔡根老師的家,立刻就有眼睛一亮的感覺。寬敞明亮的空間裡妝點著各式各樣的藝術品,是裝飾也是主角。不陰不晴,光線從大面玻璃窗斜斜射入,那些以各樣素材樸實拼湊的作品隱隱就有一股禪意,讓人沉澱,讓人寧靜。老師早期的作品主要是用夾板拼接。我很喜歡擺在走廊上的「龍」,刻刀一刀一刀剜過,刻意不磨平的粗糙表面彷彿密密的龍鱗。牆邊的木格櫃子擺滿了旅行收集來的各式紀念品,連門簾和腳下的踏墊都別具韻味。撿來的樹枝、蟬殼、廢棄物,各式各樣的東西都能脫胎換骨,成為創作的材料。來到蔡根老師的家,我找到「人人都是藝術家」的生活實證,因為不但蔡根老師本人,他們全家都是藝術家呢!

蔡根老師不僅看出素材的靈魂,更能讓他們有所展現,也符合了老師對藝術的態度!
I did agree with Caju that Mr. Tsai's works reveal to us the real soul of the materials "素材的靈魂," which made great impression on viewers. Just think: we may also need to represent in our life the real soul in us. We may need to use different ways and media to express ourselves though.
衍廷's article reminds me of the details of Professor Tsai-Gen's house. He truly is the master of materials, because his artworks are made of many different materials, and every piece surprises me. Professor Tsai-Gen finds out the potential and possibilities of materials.
