My reflections
This painting “The Forcibly Bewitched” is created by Francisco de Goya, a famous Spanish romantic painter. This painting is inspired from the play “The Forcibly Bewitched” by Antonio de Zamora. In the play is there a scene of the character, Don Claudio, who believes his life is depending on keeping flame burning. However, it is truly a clever plot.
The painting itself is quite interesting. From the Don Claudio’s expression can we tell his fear for the lamp burning out. Furthermore, we can see Don Claudio’s motion is extremely deliberate. Goya paints like cartoon, which makes this picture vivid and imaginative. That is the reason why I am attracted by this painting.
The sound transcription perfectly matches the picture. The author, Georgi Marinov, puts back the elements of the original play to the painting. The atmosphere is built up by the sound of steps in the beginning, and Goya’s still picture seems to become an animation in my eyes.
